Abnormalities in embryological development in total anomalous pulmonary venous connection. A case report.

چکیده
Pulmonary venous system development starts early in embryonic life. Abnormalities in the development of pulmonary venous system occur either by the absence of common pulmonary vein communication to the splanchnic plexus or by the absence of its incorporation into the dorsal wall of the left atrium. We present the case of a 10-day-old male newborn, diagnosed with TAPVC, operated, with long recovery and, who died by pneumonia, heart failure, and obstructive pulmonary disease (one pulmonary vein obstructed and another one with severe stenosis). Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) reflects one of the most severe forms of congenital heart disease, with important clinical consequences.

Midterm results after surgical correction of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection
Abstract Objective: To evaluate the surgical treatment of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) and determination of predictors for postoperative death. Methods: Between 1995 and 2005, 80 patients aged from 1 month to 12 years underwent surgical repair for supracardiac (39), cardiac (34), infracardiac (3) or mixed (4) type of TAPVC. Systemic pulmonary hypertension (PH) in ...
متن کاملComputed tomography features of supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection in an infant
Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC) is a rare congenital anomaly of the pulmonary veins drainage. In this entity, the pulmonary veins, instead of draining to left atrium, connect abnormally to the systemic venous circulation. A right-to-left shunt is obligatory for survival. Based on its type and degree of pulmonary venous obstruction, TAPVC may result in pulmonary hypertension ...
متن کاملA case of total left anomalous pulmonary venous connection with intact atrial septum diagnosed by two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography.
Unilateral total anomalous pulmonary venous connection from a unilateral lung is extremely rare. A 6-year-old patient with anomalous pulmonary venous connection from the entire left lung to the left innominate vein, with an intact atrial septum, diagnosed by two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography is reported. The combination of two-dimensional and Doppler echocardiography is very useful n...
متن کاملSuperior vena caval obstruction in total anomalous pulmonary venous connexion.
Total anomalous pulmonary venous connexion may be conveniently classified into supradiaphragmatic and infradiaphragmatic types (Smith, Frye, and Newton, I96I). Infradiaphragmatic forms are usually associated with obstruction to pulmonary venous flow (Johnson et al., I958) and the supradiaphragmatic types are said only rarely to have pulmonary venous obstruction (Lucas et al., I963). However, ob...
متن کاملIvemark syndrome-a rare entity with specific anatomical features.
Ivemark syndrome (IS) is a rare embryological disorder which results from failure of development of the left-right asymmetry of organs. It is often associated with cardiac and other organ abnormalities, which are the usual causes of death in early neonatal life. We report a 3 months old girl with IS with dextrocardia, transposition of the great vessels, atrio-ventricular connection, total anoma...
